Feyenoord rejects €25 million Nottingham Forest bid for Givairo Read
Feyenoord has turned down the opening offer from English side Nottingham Forest for young right‑back Givairo Read. The bid of more than €25 million, bonuses included, was dismissed on Thursday morning by club director Dévy Rigaux. Feyenoord therefore keeps the defender, who remains under contract until mid‑2029.
What happened?
Transfer rumors started when Transfermarkt reported that Feyenoord would receive a bid within a day. Even before the official offer, news broke that Rigaux had rejected it. The club gave no comment on the exact reason, but stressed that the player has no intention of leaving. Read recently told Rijnmond he feels comfortable at De Kuip and has no urgent wish to move.
Why does this matter for Feyenoord?
Read is one of the few young Dutch right‑backs already mentioned at international level. With his contract running to 2029, he is a valuable asset, especially as Feyenoord sits 2nd in the Eredivisie with 65 points (19 W‑8 D‑7 L) and a recent form of WWDDW. The team has scored 70 goals this season while conceding 44, giving a +26 goal difference. Losing him would thin defensive options while the title race still leaves them 19 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven.
Who are the other suitors?
Besides Nottingham Forest, Bayern München, Manchester City and Paris FC have shown interest in the 20‑year‑old. Paris FC tried to pry him away in the winter with a bid around €20 million, but Read chose De Kuip. The English club remains active; it is unclear whether they will raise their offer. Bayern and City linger in speculation but have not made formal bids yet.
What’s next?
Feyenoord now focuses on upcoming fixtures, including the recent 2‑0 win over PEC Zwolle (17‑May‑2026). With Jordan Bos currently sidelined, defensive depth is more important than ever. The club will keep monitoring Read’s situation, but for now the player appears determined to stay in Rotterdam. Fans can look forward to a continuation of the current form, as the Rotterdammers sit on a two‑game winning run.
